Insurance for Drone Film Shoots: US$1M vs US$2M vs US$5M
Which liability limit your shoot is likely to need and how to check the certificate.
Common limits
US$1M aviation liability is a common baseline for general commercial drone work. US$2M is typical for FilmLA and California film-office shoots. Major venues, stadiums and large events often require US$5M or more.
Checking the certificate
Ask for a certificate of insurance that names your company (and any permitting jurisdiction) as additional insured, shows the policy dates covering your shoot day, and lists aviation or drone liability — not just general business liability.
Equipment cover
Hull or equipment insurance protects the provider's aircraft and cameras. If you are renting equipment dry, check who carries the risk of damage.
