Wedding Drone Videography Checklist
Questions for couples and planners before booking aerial wedding photos and video.
Check the venue first
Ask the venue whether drones are allowed, where take-off is permitted and whether the venue needs a copy of the operator's insurance. Some venues are inside controlled airspace or near restricted areas, so the pilot may need authorisation in advance.
Guests and safety
Drones should not hover low over guests unless the operator complies with the operations-over-people rules. Most wedding aerials are captured as establishing shots of the venue, the ceremony from a safe distance, and the couple in open space.
Ask for the right portfolio
Ask for wedding footage specifically — not just landscapes — and check how aerial shots are blended into the full film. Confirm whether the drone is an add-on to your videographer or a separate provider.
Agree the details in writing
Confirm the timeline (golden hour slots go fast), the number of flights, wind and weather backup plans, deliverables (edited film, highlight reel, social cuts, stills) and the price. Typical wedding drone add-ons range from about US$200 to US$800.
